RackSpace

Physical storage unit for computers or network devices.

 

RAM - Random Access Memory

An acronym for Random Access Memory, a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly; that is, any byte of memory can be accessed without touching the preceding bytes. RAM is the most common type of memory found in computers and other devices, such as printers.

 

Real-time Payment Service Providers

An online service that will process credit card transactions for you - for a commission.

 

Real-time Credit Card Processing

On-line authorization of a credit card number in real time informing the merchant that the card has been approved.

 

Real World Support

A collection of marketing communications derived from the Merchant's store and promotional services.

 

Recant

The reversal of position due to a change in beliefs or evidence sufficient to reverse a conclusion.

 

Recurring Fees

Regular, usually monthly, charges for maintaining a merchant account. Recurring fees include the discount rate, transaction fees, statement fee, and monthly minimum.

 

Redirect URL

A Web site address that belongs almost exclusively to you - and finds your Web site no matter where it is stored on the Internet.

 

Referrer

A URL indicating where a visitor to a site originated from. If the visitor followed a link to reach a page, the referrer will be the previous page. In the case of a graphic on a page, the referrer will be the page containing the graphic.

 

Regional GeoPortal

Registrar

A organization that assists persons in establishing a domain on the Internet and who provides that information to the Internet Authority to ICANN and Network Solutions. Currently lacks refrain in using questionable marketing practices in sales of TLDs including those related to extortion of current domain names owners in an effort to pressure them to purchase additional TLDs to protect their domain while at the same time allowing affiliates to promote Cybersquatting of names in "get rich quick" schemes.

When you access a computer that you are unable to see. This is done via a modem or computer network.

 

Retrievel Request

A retrieval request is what happens when a card holder cannot remember a credit card transaction, or the bank wants order information for some reason. The card issuer initiates a retrieval request, in which the merchant has 10 days to respond with the order information or the retrieval request will turn into a chargeback. There is usually a retrieval request fee issued against the merchant also in these cases.

 

Return Code

The return status of the request which specifies whether the transfer was successful and why.

 

RISC

Acronym for reduced instruction set computer. Normally aA 64 bit computer processor found in mid-range and mainframe computers.

 

RISC Processor

A processor that employs a small number of simple instructions that are used together to perform more powerful operations, to reduce the number of clock cycles per instruction. Because of the instruction simplicity and the use of large number of registers, each generally takes only one clock cycle to execute, and the processor can run at higher speeds than can most complex instruction set computer processors. Synonymous with reduced instruction set computer processor

 

Robot

A software application that automatically finds and retrieves information from the Web. Also called a "spider" or " crawler."

 

Router

A device which sends information from one location to another in the form of 'packages' of data. A number of such packages are often required to send even a single page.
