Gateway

A point of interconnection between one electronic network and another.

 

Gateway page

Also known as a "jump," "doorway," or "bridge" page. In order to optimize a Web site's ranking with search engines, some Webmasters build gateway pages, pages customized to each search engine with specific meta tags and keywords. These pages are intended to appeal to search engine robots, and aren't always visible to customers who visit the Web site.

 

GB (Gigabyte)

In data communications, a gigabyte is one billion bytes (1,073,741,824 bytes to be exact). Byte - a group of eight binary digits processed as a unit by a computer and used especially to represent an alphanumeric character.

 

G-Commerce

E-commerce applied to government. Government as both purchaser and seller.

 

General license

A declaration by the U.S. Bureau of Export Administration that permits the open export of certain nonstrategic goods and services to designated countries. Exporters of these goods need not acquire an IVL (individual validated license)

 

Geo Portal

A passageway on the Internet to site designed to provide geographically oriented content.

 

GIF

Graphics Interchange Format is an image file format commonly used in HTML documents.

 

Gopher

An e-commerce menu-based information system on the Internet popularized because of its ability to interconnect different Gopher sites on the same menu.

 

Government Intervention

With respect to the Internet, term used to justify self serving interests and remove Government assistance and involvement with the development of the Internet. Lack of Government involvement with respect to coordination and consumer protection is major cause for Spamming, Internet theft and fraud, virus attacks, WORMS and WORM wars, free use of unsubstantiated claims, failures of firms being able to properly assess the communications infrastructure leading to major DSL carriers to go bankrupt, human right infringements, Trade Name infringements, and allow monopolistic activities to flourish, etc.

 

Great Dot Com Failure

Very short list of the total e-commerce failures occurring on the Internet that had an impact on the markets and the ability of future Internet endeavors in raising sufficient capital to finance operations. Currently affecting stability of reliant manufacturing and service sector entities.
